Love love love Fall.

Hands down, no questions asked, my favorite time of the year. Ya ya ya, I know, all you pessimists out there say "it just means winter is coming." Say it all you want, this momma doesn't care...and my pony-tailed side kick doesn't seem to mind either.

Newest Member of the Family

Meet "Caroline".  Caroline is Emma's newest American Girl Doll, that is.  Last year at Christmas, Emma couldn't resist wishing for one as the catalogs kept appearing in our mailbox (how do they do that?!)  Santa and his elve's budget didn't fit this wish, and instead showered Emma with a more reasonable gift.  However, Mom and Dad told their daughter "if you can save $100 by your birthday, we will take you to Chicago so you can buy one for yourself."  Deal.

Feeding the dog, folding towels, dusting, emptying the dishwasher, and reading books all earned her stickers on the chore chart.  Once the stickers overflowed the chart, payday came....25 cents per sticker.  Go ahead and do the math....that's 400 stickers to get to $100!  With a little help from the coins she found on sidewalks or under Dad's recliner, she did it.  Off we went, for a get-away-trip to Chicago.  Someone was proud as punch.

How about this guy?  Giving up IU football tickets on Saturday and his Colts football tickets on Sunday all so he could spend the weekend with his girls shopping for dolls and living in a very pink world.  Super dad.

...ok, so this store was amazing...and yes, I took a picture of the bathrooms.  Too gosh darn cute.

Just look at the girl.  So excited and loving the big city of Chicago along with her new best friend.  What a trip to remember.
Could I be more proud of this seven year old for her goal setting determination and hard work?  No way.  Not one more ounce.  For there was a key component to her saving $100.  Every payday, every money earned or found, there are rules.  This is her bank...
First we must put some money in the Church for Jesus and his kingdom, then we must put some money in the Bank for saving towards college, then what is left goes in the store.
Seven years old, and habits she will forever carry with her.  so so so SO proud of her and her accomplishment.

Friday was a good for this seven year old!

Breakfast surprise with a fruit excited it made her eyes glow red. ;)
Grandparent's Day at school!  Emma with "Grover's Grandma" and sporting her crown from her teacher Mrs. Fremion.  After Grandparent's day was over in the morning, I got to go into her class and read a favorite book.  Plus, first grade is the real deal now....her name scrolled across the marque in the lunchroom, the music teacher gave her a pencil, and of course the principle came down to wish her a great day.  Could school get any cooler?
 Present from Grandma!
Hanging outside and dancing  her heart out!

And how much better can a day get with a fire and s'mores on the side!

Better late than never.

If you check out this blog when it was first created, you will find an entry pretty close to every-other-day. Holidays, events, day to day antics, and the blessings in our life.  However, the past four months have passed in a blink. So tonight I shuffle through some pictures of summer and find a group that was never accounted for in my scrapbook of life. July 4th, 2012!

The Phipps' family never takes vacations.  Never.  So we do the "three day weekend deal" or "lets crash at a family member's house" trips, but never a vacation.  When the drought caused a local ban on fireworks this year we decided to mini-vacation it to a beach.  Now keep in mind that word vacation will be used very lightly.  We traveled two hours north to Indiana Dunes and spent two nights in a hotel.  The hotel was a 10 minute drive from the sand, so picture mom loading up bags for the beach spewing with snacks, towels, toys, and summer necessities.  Then after spending a day on the beach, a tired mom taking two girls into a public bathroom to "hose off" and try to keep as much sand out of the car as possible...repeat for day two.  Vacation?  Maybe.  Maybe not.  But the girls loved every second of it, and I wasn't at home unloading and loading a dishwasher.  Not a bad deal.

Bonus - fireworks on the beach.  Outstanding.  Fourth of July - one of my favorite holidays since having kids.  Love watching their faces.  Makes it all worth it.

...and there you have it.  July blogged in September.  Not least it's still the same year. ;)

One rad looking family.

From the Color Run 5K to now the Color Me Rad 5K, Emma just can't get enough. This time she made sure it was a family affair and brought along her dad and little sister too! Here's how it all went down...

Two sisters in their very nice and white very clean clothes.  Emma excited that she now knows the word "rad", and Hope was pumped for her first 5K.

Starting line!  Gotta love the #1, because well....we are.  In my book, at least.

First color bomb station was purple.  You can imagine my daughter's excitement!  ...and Adam's too.

Hope decided she wanted to give it a try.  What better place than the pink station, and how cute is that big sister in her shades?!  (Can you imagine Adam's excitement to be splattered in not just purple color, but now pink.  If anyone ever asks if God has a sense of humor, I surely do think so now!)  As for Hope - she loved it and was ready for more!

Finish line madness....not only a blue explosion, but each individual racer got their own packet of color dust to throw.

Is that my daughter rolling around on the ground?!  Yep.  And just as they say, "monkey see, monkey do"....down went Hope to roll, too....

The last family photo hanging in our house is from over two years ago.  In fact, it is the photo you see near the top of the blog on the right side of the screen by Our Family.  (How ironic we are all in white clean shirts.)  While Hank can been seen in that family photo opt, Hope was hiding inside my belly.  Ever since she was born, I have been longing for an updated family photo that includes her beautiful face.  Someone hand me a frame because Saturday my wish was granted...
